My picture of RAF Museum, Cosford is in Schmap

I was contacted recently by the Schmap team when they requested use of a picture I took of RAF Cosford to be included in their online mapping system

Schmap are a mapping service like Google maps, only Google maps focus more on their road mapping technology with the occasional user supplied picture.
Schmap on the other hand are more of a classic mapping service like Streetmap, only they actively seek decent photographs of surrounding areas so people can see what’s nearby in every location possible.

With that, I was contacted by them for one of my pictures to be added into their 9th edition.

The picture I took was from my recent trip to Cosford for the BIPP annual conference. I was a bit surprised they used the picture they did as I had some other ones that I thought were much better/more interesting, but the client often has their own preference.

If you get the chance to visit the RAF museum in Cosford then it is worth the trip. Lots of memorabilia housed in it’s

Here’s a direct link to Schmap so you can see it’s features: https://www.schmap.com/

    Long time no blog …..

It’s been a 6 weeks since I’ve posted a blog, mainly due to too much happening and when I do think about it I’m usually travelling and unable to scribe my mental gibberish into a defenceless nearby PC.

One of my changes are to this blog itself. No longer Google Blogger driven, but now I host and maintain the blog myself for faster publishing, increased functionality and it should be easier to read too.

I’m still facelifting the blog as well as working on a couple of other sites in the background which will (I hope) be big news in early 2010.

Meanwhile ….. I’ll put down some retrospective posts here (backdated) to follow a better timeline

P.S. It’s my birthday in the next 7 days … if anyone feels inclined to get me this then feel free :)

    eBay pictures

One of the best things about living alone has to be that you can float about in your underwear (or less) if you feel like it. But alas – all these things must come to pass … after my other half moves in (soon)

In the meantime she’s sold her house and is selling extra bits which she will no longer need.
She asked me to take some shots for her so she could sell her wares (I said wares) on eBay

She popped out for a couple of hours to visit family and left me with a list of items to picture
(and told me to keep my clothes on 😉

All these shots were done with 2 small flashes with umbrellas and a couple of reflectors
I only had a couple of hours and spent 1/4 the time cleaning them all before taking one picture.
The images are unedited other than a quick colour balance, contrast and sharpening

There were about 5-8 images per item so the thumbnails below will take you to the page with the others on:

Chase Jarvis’ new book: The Best Camera

Seattle commercial/advertising photographer Chase Jarvis recently released a book and iPhone app which exudes the virtues of the popular Apple iPhone as a method of capturing better pictures than your regular smudgy mobile captures

The title is an incomplete part of the phrase “The Best Camera is the one that’s with you”. True to the statement that if you must take a picture and you’ve left your decent camera at home, then the one on your mobile may suffice.
But it’s more than that …

Chase’s iPhone app pulls together elements of different apps which he found useful and puts them in a single app. After having this for a while he opened this out to the public via the Apple Store to download for a teeny $3.
The app lives alongside the book with the book providing inspiration to the type of image you can take if you have an eye like Chase’s.

Below are the links if you’d like to check it out
